What To Watch in 2025 (TV Shows)

Hi friends! Happy Wednesday! Today, I was meant to have a 2nd doctor's appointment for a few follow up things but I got a text this morning saying I needed to rebook, so I'm now going on Friday so hopefully that one doesn't get cancelled as well. We also took Benji for an afternoon walk to the park where he met a new doggo called Daisy (another Japanese Spitz - there seems to be heaps around here) and then I have ticked off a 2025 goal - I got an ABN sorted. It seemed daunting but then once I finished the application, it was approved straight away so I was like oh that wasn't that hard. But yay for ticking off a goal already. I also went for a quick walk with Luke when I was 3/4 of the way finished writing this post yay!

For this blog post, I thought we could take a look at what to watch in 2025 - things I'm excited to watch and things you might want to watch (mainly tv shows). I'm going to mainly be talking about streaming services in here but I might add a few Aussie free to air shows too just in case there's some people down under reading this!

What To Watch in 2025 (TV Shows)

Severance (S2 - AppleTV) - Now, I haven't yet watched this show BUT I do like Adam Scott because Parks and Recreation is my comfort show for life. And it has great reviews. I also just got an iPad Air so I think it comes with a free trial of AppleTV so this is definitely going on my must watch list. I also really like how the creator of this show is Ben Stiller.

IMDB's synopsis "Mark leads a team of office workers whose memories have been surgically divided between their work and personal lives. When a mysterious colleague appears outside of work, it begins a journey to discover the truth about their jobs."

S2 is coming January 17th.

Season 1 Trailer

Season 2 Trailer

American Primeval (Mini Series - Netflix) - From the looks of the trailer, this show looks like it's going to be a mix of a Western with a twist of a bit of shows like 1883 and Game of Thrones shown in there, so I think it'll be interesting for sure.

IMDB's synopsis - "It follows the gritty and adventurous exploration of the birth of the American West, the violent collisions of cults, religion, and men and women fighting for control of the new world."

Coming January 9th.

The Trailer

Apple Cider Vinegar (Mini Series - Netflix) - I don't know how I personally feel about this one, as it's kinda/somewhat based on a true story and I just don't get why you would lie about it AND the implications are kinda insane IMO. But the trailer does kinda hook me so I want to give it a shot.

IMDB's synopsis - "The life of wellness guru Belle Gibson, who had a large social media following, where she pretending to be suffering from cancer but keeping the disease under control using self-care therapies. She confessed that none of it was true."

Coming February 6th.

The trailer

Daredevil: Born Again (Disney+) - I believe this show was meant to be a stand alone reboot BUT it sounds like it's becoming more of a sequel to the OG Daredevil TV series that was on Netflix. I'm really excited for this one because Daredevil was one of the marvel shows I really liked (I also liked Jessica Jones because seeing David Tenant as a villain was fun). Oh, and we can't forget The Defenders - but I'd recommend watching Jessica Jones first.

IMDB's synopsis - "Matt Murdock finds himself on a collision course with Wilson Fisk when their past identities begin to emerge."

Coming March 5th.

The trailer

You (S5, Netflix) - Ah, this show feels like it's gone way too far, but are you like me and you just can't look away and want to know what's going to happen to Joe? If you haven't seen Seasons 1 - 4 and you're interested in crime/psychological thriller content, then this show is for you. And seeing things from the perspective of a criminal is kinda interesting. I won't put all the trailers here, just S5 for obvious reasons. I really did think S4 was going to wrap things up but it just got weirder and weirder. I'm hoping S5 ties all the things nicely together and we see some justice.

Also quickly, kudos to Penn Badgley for how he plays his character Joe, but also how he discusses how insane Joe is too.

IMDB's synopsis - "A dangerously charming, intensely obsessive young man goes to extreme measures to insert himself into the lives of those he is transfixed by."

Coming March 6th.

The trailer

The Studio (AppleTV) - I am VERY interested to see Seth Rogan as a main character in a satirical tv show. Also, the cast is epic and I mean epic!

IMDB's synopsis - "Follows a legacy Hollywood movie studio striving to survive in a world where it is increasingly difficult for art and business to live together."

Coming March 26th.

The trailer

Andor (S2, Disney+) - Ahh yah for more Andor - I really liked this but I guess I am a little bit of a Star Wars fan. I don't go out of my way to watch Star Wars content but I do like how there's this whole universe and things and because Rebels is my favourite, I think this is good too. Plus, the actor who plays Cassian is definitely easy on the eyes (sorry, Luke).

IMDB's synopsis - "Prequel series to Star Wars' 'Rogue One'. In an era filled with danger, deception and intrigue, Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a Rebel hero."

Coming April 22nd.

The trailer

The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives (S2, Hulu) - S1 is on Disney+ in Australia but I'm not sure if S2 will be on there. TBH, I don't think that IMDB's synopsis really gives it enough credit, like I get that there is swinger content in the show, but it's also about their lives as Mormon wives. I feel like you can kinda just watch a YouTube commentary video about this and get the gist (I did that for S1 but I think I wanna see what happens in S2). If you want drama, you will get it here. Also, fair warning - there is a lot of misogyny involved too - from both the men and women.

IMDB's synopsis - "Reality show about swingers who happen to be Mormon wives."

Coming Jan OR May 2025 (some sites differ).

The trailer

Black Mirror (S7, Netflix) - I have such a love-hate relationship with this show because half the time I love it and love that uncomfortable feeling when watching and other times, I just want to throw up. Apparently, in S7 we will see some sequels. I feel like this is a show to watch when you're feeling really disenchanted with the world. Some episodes that have stuck with me have been White Bear, Shut Up and Dance, and, Loch Henry. I haven't watched the rest of S6 after that one, but I think I better get to it soon.

IMDB's synopsis - "Featuring stand-alone dramas -- sharp, suspenseful, satirical tales that explore techno-paranoia -- "Black Mirror" is a contemporary reworking of "The Twilight Zone" with stories that tap into the collective unease about the modern world."

Coming TBC.

The trailer (there isn't a proper one yet so just enjoy this YT video about what we know so far)

David Attenborough: Ocean (Disney+) - I have a theory that Sir David Attenborough has lived a really long life (he's 98) because he's spent the majority of his life outside, with animals. We should all listen to him about everything. I believe this is going to be a documentary, so I'm not sure if it's episodes or one big movie.

IMDB's synopsis - "Attenborough explores the planet's undersea habitats, revealing the greatest age of ocean discovery and emphasizing the ocean's vital importance while exposing its problems and highlighting opportunities for marine life recovery."

Coming TBC.

No trailer has been released yet.

Some other notable shows to look forward to this year are:

Aussie Free-To-Air TV Shows:

  • Dr Karl's How Things Work - Tuesdays 8pm, ABC - Dr Karl visits factories and fun places to learn how things work, kinda in the title really

  • Eat The Invaders - Tuesdays 8:30pm, ABC - Tony Armstrong goes on an adventure to learn how to "eat" invasive species and what can be done.

  • I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here Australia (S11) - coming to Channel 10, January 19.

  • Sam Pang's TV Show (I think it's on 10) but we don't know too much about it yet.

  • Todd Sampson's Why (Channel 10, TBC) - A show about all the "whys" in the world. I can imagine him going "but why" a lot - he's on Gruen if you're wondering who the f*ck I am talking about.

  • Big Brother - I think this is on Channel 10 too and Mel Tracina is hosting it. I don't know how I feel about Big Brother, the concept is VERY weird and it did get a bit too se$$al for my liking lately, but I'm hoping Mel's gonna make it a breath of fresh air.

  • Also, my favourites Have You Been Paying Attention? The Cheap Seats, Thank God You're Here and Taskmaster.

  • Muster Dogs S3 (ABC) - because who doesn't love doggos?

Hahah yes! I think most streaming services are pretty similar dates here (When I lived in NZ we had to wait for AGES so I'd always see so many spoilers).
