Hi friends! Spooky season is here! It's almost Halloween and I'm not someone who's ever really celebrated Halloween, in fact, I hate the concept of people coming to my house asking for candy, lollies, and chocolate, but I do get why kids like it. With that being said, even though I'm not a fan of Halloween, I do love all things spooky and creepy. For this blog, I have complied a list of some scary TV shows I suggest watching for spooky season! #spookyseason
Scary TV Shows to Watch for Spooky Season
The Haunting of Hill House (2018) Mini Series - IMDB says "Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it."
I actually started reading the book by Shirley Jackson this week too and I thought it was going to be like the TV show BUT I was very very wrong. I think they both have their pros and cons. I did enjoy the TV series even though it was scary. There were jump scares but not in the way that normal horror has jump scares, if you catch my drift. I suggest watching and reading so you can see the differences!
The Trailer
Dark (2017 - 2020) - 3 Seasons - IMDB says "A family saga with a supernatural twist, set in a German town where the disappearance of two young children exposes the relationship among four families."
This is one of my favourite TV shows by far! And the twist at the very end is intense, but you probably saw it coming. The show is in German so you can either watch it dubbed or with subtitles (I watched it dubbed but I think it would be better with subtitles). It's a whole other world!
The trailer
The X-Files (1993 - 2018) - IMDB says "Two F.B.I. Agents, Fox Mulder the believer and Dana Scully the skeptic, investigate the strange and unexplained, while hidden forces work to impede their efforts."
Just a classic all rounder I would say!
The trailer
Midnight Mass (2021) Mini Series - IMDB says "An isolated community experience miraculous events - and frightening omens - after the arrival of a charismatic, mysterious young priest."
I binge-watched this show back in 2021 and omg, I loved it, it had me from the start ALL the way through to the end, and when it finished I didn't know what to do with myself.
The trailer
American Horror Story (2011 - ) - IMDB says "An anthology series centering on different characters and locations, showcasing different aspects of horror."
I really struggled watching this from the first season because I was so uncomfortable but I do love anthology so I think I need to go and give this one a second chance but everyone who has watched ALL of it has RAVED about it so much!
The trailer (for S1)
Wednesday (2022 - ) - IMDB says "Follows Wednesday Addams' years as a student, where she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a killing spree, and solve the mystery that embroiled her parents."
Another amazing binge-watch! I can't wait for Season 2! Jenna Ortega is the perfect casting for this show.
The trailer
Scream Queens (2015 - 2016) - IMDB says "A semi-anthology series that centers on characters being terrorized by a serial killer in different locations, including a university and a hospital."
For some reason, I always thought this went for longer than 2 years BUT it is a good show, it's a bit silly and scary at times, but I feel like the humour always outshone the horror (if that makes sense). I really enjoyed Emma Robert's character Chanel - she's kinda the character you love to hate, but also love too. I believe the only reason that this show got cancelled was American Horror Story was running at the same time (and was from the same creator - who wanted to do the same thing for Scream Queens but it didn't quite work). Nonetheless, it is definitely worth a watch!
The trailer
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018 - 2020) - IMDB says "As her 16th birthday nears, Sabrina Spellman must reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit."
If you liked Riverdale, you'll love Sabrina! I love how it was really dark and mysterious. I think this show was so good, there's no other way to put it. Worth a watch and I wish it went on for longer, or at least had a different ending. Watching the trailer makes me want to go and watch it again and I'm not someone who watches things more than once, usually.
The trailer
The Order (2019 - 2020) - IMDB says "Out to avenge his mother's death, a college student pledges to a secret order and lands in a war between werewolves and practitioners of dark magic."
Now, this is one of those shows that you really wish there was more and I can't believe it got cancelled, it was sooooo good! I was hooked from the get-go.
The trailer
Wellington Paranormal (2018 - 2022) - IMDB says "Sergeant Maaka, and Officers Minogue and O'Leary, are members of the Wellington, New Zealand, police. Their job is to investigate paranormal phenomena."
What happens when you put Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi together? This show LOL.
The trailer
Unsolved Mysteries (2020 - ) - Netflix Reboot! IMDB says "Immersive, character-driven stories are rooted in the experience of ordinary people who have lived the unthinkable. Families, detectives, and journalists hope viewers hold the clues to solving these mysteries."
If you loved the original series, then take a look at these! I'm currently up to season 5 and I really enjoy this show, it's not just true crime, but it is a show aimed at hoping to find out what really happened. I really hope that all the families get the answers they are looking for.
The trailer
The Society (2019) - IMDB says "When everyone else mysteriously vanishes from their wealthy town, the teen residents of West Ham must forge their own society to survive."
This show really leaves you hanging as season 2 got cancelled because of covid but it is still worth a watch IMO, as it has all things gruesome. I think the best way to go about this ending is to give it what you think happened.
The trailer
The Following (2013 - 2015) - IMDB says "A brilliant, charismatic, and psychotic serial killer communicates with other active serial killers and activates a cult of believers who follow his every command."
This is one of the scariest TV shows I've ever watched but I couldn't turn away from it. I'm sad it ended so soon. I feel like there was a lot more they could have done with it.
