My Current Obsessions
The TV show Severance. I don't know why it took me so long to watch it. At first, I thought the concept was super scary, and I was just too much of a scaredy-cat to watch it, BUT then I got my iPad, and it came with an AppleTV+ free trial, so I gave it a go, AND let me tell you, I was hooked. It's one of those TV shows that makes you feel alive. And the last time that really happened where I was super excited to watch an episode of a show was when Marvel's Agents of SHIELD was on (and fun fact - Dichen Lachman is in both these shows).
The Jack Reacher books by Lee Child and Andrew Child (and obviously the TV show too).
The TV show Tracker - I started watching this on the plane ride over to NZ last year and I was so hooked. For this one I prefer the TV show over the books but they both have their pros and cons. I wish they'd bring the corgi back though!!
My Kindle - I will forever owe Luke for getting me this and getting me back into fiction reading. I've been reading so fast this year.
Pizza shapes - I just love this flavour so much.
HannahTheHorrible on YT - I'm tempted to subscribe to her patreon but it's expensive and we have so many streaming services already haha. Even though she talks about really scary stuff, she's quite comforting and I like the fact she's inclusive of everyone, no matter who they are.
My ice cream maker and making ice cream - it's like ALL I wanna do, is experiment with different ice creams BUT do you know how hard it is to eat ice cream really fast? Very hard if you don't wanna put on weight haha. So far I've made mango sorbet, chocolate ice cream, and cookies and cream ice cream. You can check out my recipes on "Eats With Ash". The next ones I want to make are limoncello sorbet and banana ice cream.
Bronzing drops and mascara - it's like my go to if I'm going out anywhere. It's not as complicated as putting on a full face of make up and I just feel a little bit more attractive. For best results, mix bronzing drops with moisturiser and rub into face.
Fun drinks & putting them in fancy glasses (and also putting my ice cream in fancy glasses).
My skin care stuff: Glow Lab moisturiser, Glow Lab exfoliator, and Glow Lab cleanser - and I love the little face masks they do but you don't get them as often in Australia as you do in NZ. I know I should buy more local skin care products but these have worked for me for SOOO long and I love them. I recommend getting them at the chemist warehouse because usually they have the best deal but what works for my skin might not work for yours. Luke also likes to use these products hehe.
Shower bombs (steamers) - This would normally be bath bombs or bubble bath but we don't have a bath at our current house so we gotta settle for shower bombs LOL But they are fun.
Lush face masks and wasabi shampoo - it just feels really nice on my hair haha.
Probiotic gummies - As someone with IBS, these really help me and I remember to take the gummies over the pills. I do try and eat a lot of fermented food like yoghurt and stuff too to help but these are great, especially when I gotta take iron supplements too.
Putting my LED lights on my desk and chair in the morning before I start working to help me feel good - it's the little things.
Learning about goblincore - I blame Sammy J for this. I also like cottage core aesthetics.
Panel/comedy shows: Sam Pang Tonight, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, QI, Would I Lie To You?, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Last One Laughing, Taskmaster, Whose Line Is It Anyway? and The Weekly. I'm also looking forward to The Cheap Seats, Have You Been Paying Attention, Spicks and Specks, and Thank God You're Here coming back.
Learning about new unsolved mysteries that aren't as commonly known and learning about internet oddities and theories in general.
Debunking allegedly "paranormal" stuff - thinking about spooky things in a critical way and being like "okay, that can be done this way so it might not be real".
Pokémon Go - I still wanna get to level 50 omg! We'll get there.
Flipboard and Pinterest - these are great for bloggers.
My content calendars - I have a whiteboard for my content and also a whiteboard for what Luke and I have on for the month. I also use my diary and my phone calendar but it's good to have whiteboards where we can both see what's going on.
The card game Exploding Kittens - it's so silly. I also love Cards Against Humanity.
Roast meals - delish! Plus, we always make Benji a roast to have for dinner on our roast dinner nights, so spoilt.
Wellness coffee (specifically Before You Speak Coffee and the period one).
Not drinking (I still love a good cocktail bar, but I don't really crave alcohol like when I was younger and always partying).
Feeling joy - "Joy is a spark that reminds us we’re alive—not because everything is perfect, but because we choose to see light even in small, fleeting moments. It doesn’t demand grand events or ideal circumstances; sometimes, it’s a quiet moment of laughter, a sunrise, or the way a dog greets you like you’re their entire world.
Joy is resilient. It can coexist with sorrow, dance beside grief, and still whisper, “There is beauty here too.” It teaches us to pay attention—to savour, to be present, and to remember that life isn’t just about surviving, but about feeling.
Let joy be your quiet rebellion. In a world that rushes and demands, let joy be your gentle “yes” to the things that truly matter." - From my Substack.
My colouring in app on my iPad (it's kind of like paint by numbers kinda).
Birding (i.e., taking photos of cool birds), I haven't been able to get a good photo of a Musk Lorikeet, and that has been frustrating me but I still love the birds.
BENJI (he will always be my obsession though; he's the best doggo ever).
Podcasts. I have been enjoying having a bit of background noise while I have been working and I am enjoying the following podcasts: Can't Sleep, Good Hang with Amy Poehler, The Sesh (sometimes), Basically Unfiltered, and Ghosteas.
Daily affirmations rather than meditation and also frequencies.
Mini easter eggs - just because they're mini makes them more fun!
Trying to dress better for my ever-changing body shape.
Satin pillow cases for my curly hair!
Not washing my hair as often and using less product in my hair overall.
Drinking water with ice cubes - it makes it taste so much better.
Authentically being myself, taking up space with my opinions and all that jazz, not baking down for things I believe in.
What's your current obsession? Let me know in the comments below.
Much love,
Ash

Cards Against Humanity: I still remember the first time I was introduced to this game in Australia, I had so much fun playing it, it's also a great icebreaker for making new friends.
I can definitely relate to a lot of your obsessions!! Thanks for sharing!
