March 2025 Life Updates

  • Luke had his last day of cricket for the season, which means he's got a lot more time (although I still feel like we barely see each other, AND we live together HAHA).

  • I made chocolate ice cream and it was delish, it went in like a week. You can check out my recipe on my 2nd blog eatswithash "here".

  • We have been going to a new coffee shop - Coffee Baby in Glenroy - it's the same as Flower Baby near us, BUT they have pup cups, and it's less busy. I think I prefer this one. And, when you're driving there, there's a house with a cow statue in their front yard. I just posted a pic on my IG and FB stories so if you follow me on those, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

  • I've been doing my best to try and leave the house more, even if it's just for walks - I'm getting there. I don't know if it's more social anxiety or if it has more to do with my health complications.

  • I got a new office set up! A fancy new desk and gaming chair, and they both have LED lights which are SOOOO COOOL. It makes sitting at my desk more comfortable and, overall more fun. And we also got a new white rug, which Benji has claimed as his own. So far it's not as dirty as it could be but I imagine we are going to have to keep it clean in the future.

  • We spent one afternoon walking around Coburg Lake - it's a great spot for an afternoon walk and I am trying to get in more nature time before it's just dark all the time in Melbourne.

  • It was Luke's family dog Rusty's 2nd anniversary of his passing and we've actually met a cute staffy puppy called Rusty who lives near us so I think that's a bit cute.

  • Luke's parents had their wedding anniversary in the long weekend and that same weekend I was having either a really bad IBS flare up or a tummy bug so lots of my plans got cancelled.

  • We had a tradie guy come to fix the leaking A/C unit, and he went on the roof to do so but our A/C is still leaking.

  • I got myself some new clothes - I wanted some more nice clothes and office type wear to motivate myself more. So I went with some stuff from Black Milk & Forever New.

  • Luke got a haircut & booked in his next appointment, he usually just waits until it's due but it's good that he booked it.

  • We've been going down to the nature spot Westbreen Creek a bit with Benji, and we also took Benji down to Altona Dog Beach, where Benji had his first proper swim, and he just naturally swam; it was pretty cool to see. We kept him on the lead just in case, but he did really well.

  • My heath insurance went up another $10 YAY inflation /s.

  • Benji's registration was paid for this year.

  • I've started to try and add in more exercise (I am always trying), but this month I've been doing some fat-burning HIT, trying to go for some runs but no way could I do what Luke is doing, and have even been playing switch sports to help get back into it.

  • I got my 2nd B12 shot

  • I started EMDR therapy with my psychologist - we haven't done much yet, but I can talk about more next month, probably.

  • Benji had his yearly vaccines and has been limping so he got an x-ray at the vet and it turns out he's got a slight issue with his hip joint (it's not fused properly) so we've started him on supplements. The vet doesn't think he needs surgery, but we'll see how he goes with these supplements and if they work for him.

  • Luke made pasta from scratch. His recipe is "here". Speaking of recipes, I also made a really yummy beetroot and feta salad, which you can see "here".

  • My student loan repayments for this month were paid super early woo!

  • The YouTube videos I put out are as follows: The Burnt Toast Theory // Office Refresh & Daily Life (With a Corgi Supervisor) // The Dead Internet Theory // TikTok Ban EXPOSED: Why Influencers Are Suddenly Caught Lying? The sociology videos seem to be doing well so I think that's the way I should be going.

  • The Freaky Friday Files I put out are as follows: The Bunny Man Urban Legend // Park Bench Murders // Popular Misconceptions & Myths. I have finally started batching them for the following months so that I keep on top of them.

  • The books I have read are as follows: 1. Fairy Tale by Stephen King 2. The Goodbye Man by Jefferey Deaver 3. The Mind-Gut Connection by Emeran Mayer, MD 4. Ushers by Joe Hill You can check out my March 2025 Book Reviews "here."

  • TV Shows that Luke and I have been enjoying this month have been The Weekly, Sam Pang Tonight, Last One Laughing (Ireland, UK, & Australia), Derry Girls, The Role of a Lifetime, Gogglebox, and Taskmaster Australia.

  • The TV shows that I have been enjoying this month have been Severance (so sad that this season is over), Reacher S3, and Daredevil: Born Again. I'm about to start watching The Studio on AppleTV+.

  • I was super excited when Luke got me a National Geographic Magazine subscription thinking that the magazine would come early but every month it comes on like the last day and I just think it's sooo funny because you could get it at the shops beforehand. Like, I know they have to print so many but wouldn't it make sense to send it to the subscribers first?

  • I've been trying to get back into my secret project ebook for asheycakes. It's slowly coming along. And I've been trying to take Metamucil with my iron to see if that helps with the IBS symptoms - my nurse suggested to try it. Might as well because I have nothing to lose, and I tried using Imodium for the first time, which worked really well but it's not like you can take that every day.

  • My friend from NZ came to visit his partner that lives in Melbourne and we got to catch up for lunch one day which was so nice because I miss my CHCH friends a lot. We got bagels and Benji was obsessed with him, he just begged for belly rubs the whole day.

  • We had our new property manager try and book in an inspection even though we literally just had one in February so that was a bit of drama but luckily, our old one confirmed that she'd been here then and that legally in Victoria, they should only be every 6 months.

  • This one is a bit niche, but remember when I sent an email to the airport about the really awful taxi service when we were going home from the airport when we got back from NZ last year? Well, all they did was close my case LOL - An email back would have been nice but ugh. Oh well.

  • We had a tradie guy from Detector Inspector come and do an electrical safety check. I thought it was going to take like 2 hours, so I took Benji down to the dog park (yay for driving) but he was super quick according to Luke - in and out - which was good because Benji had a run around with his ball and was tired after.

  • As I'm posting this now, tomorrow night we have tickets to go see Sammy J for the Melbourne Comedy festival and I am very much looking forward to it. On that night, Luke's cricket club is doing their awards night so we'll keep you posted with any updates on any awards etc.

Things I'm looking forward to in April are a haircut and full colour, daylight savings because it's so dark and my body likes to wake up at 7:30 now, our trip to Daylesford that we booked for a few days, and I'll keep the rest on the downlow so I can post about it next month (and in my newsletters).

Thanks for reading this month's updates! I hope you enjoyed them.

Much love,

Ash xx

It's fascinating to reflect on everything that unfolds in just one month when you take the time to document it. You often accomplish far more than you initially realize!
