Life Update: We got a puppy! Introducing Benji Bear

Updated: Sep 23

Hi friends,

Just a lil life update! Luke and I got a little fur baby - Mr Benji Bear, the Welsh Pembroke Corgi. Can't believe we found the cutest little munchkin ever (well, he chose us).

Here are some snaps so far.

So we moved into the new place as it was pet friendly with the intention that we could get a pet and there are a few corgi breeders around Melbourne at the moment, but we went with the one that was most communicative, straight to the point, and happy to meet with us in a safe environment for the pups. So on Sunday the 18th of February, we headed down to the breeder's house and met the pups and then took Benji home with us. He came straight up to me and stayed with me the whole time so he definitely chose us (although unfortunately, he was the most expensive so that was annoying) but he's gonna be spoiled.

We also had a list of silly corgi names like Waffles, Cheddar, Mocha, etc., but he only really responded to Benji so we went with that. We were allowed to take him to the pet store on Sunday as long as we carried him and the ladies in there were so kind and helpful to us! He was also a crowd-pleaser. Benji has also met a few of the neighbours and he's a great conversation starter so I can't wait till he's able to go for walks once he's vaccinated. We need to enrol him in puppy school so we can get him socialised too!

We've also taken Benji for a check up at the vet and he's happy and healthy so that's really good. I think he liked the treatos the vet gave him haha. So far he's still toilet training but Benji sorta knows his name, how to "come" when called, and "sit". Doing lots of positive reinforcement so hopefully, he's a good doggo altogether. The vet said everything is normal and that we can probably give him a bit more food and it's better to over-feed a pup than under-feed him. He definitely likes doing things for treats.

Benji is still in his baby sleeping stages where he will play for about 20 minutes (go, go, go) and then fall asleep for a few hours. He also likes the air conditioners (so he's definitely like me and enjoys the cold) + he likes laying on the hardwood floors as they are cold for him too. We might have to get him a cooling mat while it's still a bit warm.

Benji is 75% a perfect angel and 25% a menace. He's starting to get his little bark too and looks at me funny if I go "woof woof".

But stay tuned for more Benji Bear updates because he's adorable. You can follow him on Instagram at @benjibear_thecorgi.

Much love,

Ash, Luke & Benji xx
