Disclaimer: the story in today's blog post was written by AI - ChatGPT 3.5 specifically. One of the things I want to do before I turn 30, is learn more about AI and why not start by using it for some things (mainly just social media ideas and this silly story so far). You can check out my post "30 things I want to do before I'm 30" here. So far, I've done like 4 things haha - start a YouTube channel, astral project, get a corgi, and monetize my blog. Time is running out fast lol (less than 2 years now). At least it's only 30 things amiright? Also, I've fixed the story to be British English rather than American English.
Hi friends! I thought I'd do something a bit different and get ChatGPT to write me a story about a Ghost Tram that haunts Melbourne and here it is. Anything in italics is my own writing.
The Ghost Tram - by ChatGPT
Once upon a time in the vibrant city of Melbourne, Australia, a legend whispered through the narrow alleys and bustling streets—a tale of the Ghost Tram. The story began decades ago, when the tram system was the lifeblood of the city, ferrying passengers from one corner to another.
On the outskirts of the city, there was an old tram depot, its red bricks weathered by time. The Tram 666, known as the cursed tram, had been retired and stored there after a tragic accident claimed the lives of its passengers. Locals spoke of a ghostly apparition that appeared on moonlit nights, an ethereal tram silently gliding through the deserted tracks.
As the legend goes, the Ghost Tram would emerge from the depths of the depot, its once vibrant colours now faded into a haunting shade. The windows, shattered in the accident, were replaced by an otherworldly glow that flickered like restless spirits. The tram moved without a sound, guided by an invisible force.
Residents near the tracks claimed to hear the phantom bell toll, echoing through the night like a mournful melody. Some even reported seeing ghostly passengers waiting at the stops, their faces etched with an eerie calmness. Witnesses spoke of transparent figures boarding the ethereal tram, destined for a journey beyond the mortal realm.
Curiosity and fear gripped the city as the legend of the Ghost Tram spread. Paranormal investigators and thrill-seekers flocked to the abandoned depot, armed with cameras and ghost-hunting equipment. But the Ghost Tram remained elusive, appearing only to those who had an unexplainable connection to its tragic past.
Among the skeptics, there was a young journalist named Emma who dismissed the ghostly tales as mere superstition. Intrigued by the urban legend, she decided to investigate and prove that there was a rational explanation behind the Ghost Tram.
One chilly night, as Emma explored the abandoned tram depot, the air became thick with an otherworldly presence. Suddenly, the faint sound of a bell echoed through the stillness. Emma's heart raced as the Ghost Tram materialised before her, its ethereal glow casting an otherworldly light.
With trepidation, Emma boarded the spectral tram. To her surprise, the ghostly passengers paid her no mind. As the tram glided through the deserted tracks, Emma felt a deep sorrow emanating from the very essence of the Ghost Tram. Memories of the tragic accident played out before her eyes, and the souls of the departed seemed to yearn for peace.
Realising that the Ghost Tram was a vessel for lingering spirits, Emma dedicated herself to unraveling the mystery and helping the lost souls find closure. She delved into historical records, spoke to witnesses, and uncovered forgotten stories. With each revelation, the Ghost Tram's appearances became less frequent, as if the souls found solace in the acknowledgment of their untimely fate.
In the end, the Ghost Tram no longer haunted Melbourne with restless spirits. Instead, it became a symbol of remembrance—a reminder of the city's history and the lives that had once traveled its tracks. The legend of the Ghost Tram transformed from a tale of fear to one of compassion, as the city embraced its spectral past and the souls found peace in the afterlife.

Okie so now we've gotten through the story, let's get into my thoughts because it wouldn't be an Ashy blog post without some thoughts! It's not that scary. For some reason, I thought a Ghost Tram would be scarier - it's also more like a summary than a story and why does Chat GPT use the world etheral so much? It doesn't seem to add anything to it. To me, this story is really lacking substance and I wish there were more. Do I write my own version of the story? Do I give ChatGPT a second chance? However, one thing I did wanna look up after creating this story was whether or not Melbourne has actually had any stories of a ghost tram. The only real exciting thing I could find was from the Melbourne Tram Museum "here" that talked about stories of trams with scary numbers or trams that didn't appear on a timetable - somewhat labelled the secret trams.
I do really want to get back into fiction writing - so maybe I'll come back to this post one day and re-write it, ashy style. Let me know in the comments what you think of ChatGPT's story and whether you'd want to hear a story from me that's similar!
Much love,
Ash xx
