Christmas Mysteries

  • The mystery of the Sodder Children - On Christmas Eve, 1945, a fire destroyed the Sodder residence in Fayetteville West Virginia, USA. George Sodder and his wife lived at the house with 9 of their 10 children. Following the fire, 4 of the 9 children escaped and 5 have never been found. The parents believed that the 5 children did not die in the fire based on some unusual happenings before and during the fire. They disputed that the fire's origin was electrical as they had recently had their house rewired and inspected. They also believed that it was due to arson and that the Sicilian Mafia took the 5 children as George was often outspoken against the fascist government. According to Wikipedia, evidence came to light that the fire had been set deliberately when a bus driver who had passed through that evening saw people throwing "balls of fire" at the Sodder's residence. If you want to read more, check out "this Reddit thread" with more info.

  • Killing of JonBenét Ramsey - On Christmas Day, 1996, this American child beauty queen was found d$$d in her home at age 6, in Boulder, Colorado. Her body was found in the home's basement 7 hours after she had been reported missing. The mother also found a ransom note on their staircase. The autopsy report revealed that she had d*ed by asphyxiation and her death was ruled a h*micide. Authorities originally believed that the ransom note was written by Ramsey's mother, Patsy which led them to believe that the parents had committed the m*rder and staged it this way. However, they did not have any evidence against them so the parents were cleared in 2008. Another theory is that an unknown male intruder had committed the crime as in 2003, there was DNA from Ramsey's clothes of an unknown male. I have yet to watch the new Netflix series about this case but I'm not sure if they found new evidence. But hey, I need to watch it first. Honestly, this is such an awful case and I hope she rest in peace.

  • Matilda Rooney's Spontaneous Human Combustion - Yes, you read that right. And I didn't think this was real? Wikipedia says it's pseudoscience. Allegedly, in 1885, a farmhand called John Larson was spending Christmas with two of his workers who were married - Patrick and Matilda Rooney in Illinois. Larson woke up in the morning to spots of soot on his bed, and when he went downstairs he found Patrick d*ceased in his bed and could not find Matilda anywhere at all. Later that day, Larson found a large black hole in the kitchen floor and the remains of a human foot. It is believed that Matilda was the victim of spontaneous human combustion. Also, I just found a reddit thread that said Larson passed away two weeks later due to something wrong with his lungs so I think that there may have been an issue with where they were staying or whatever they were working on. And yes, I know, Reddit isn't a reliable source but they do have news articles to back them up - very interesting.

  • The Warminster Thing - In 1964, Christmas morning in the UK town of Warminster, a lot of residents were disturbed by a series of strange noises - noises that were like strong, pounding attacks/vibrations (also known as sonic attacks). The next summer, residents of Warminster reported seeing UFO type things in the sky. The sounds have never been explained.

  • The KKK were founded on Christmas Eve, 1865 - And yes, I know this isn't really a mystery but why did it happen on Christmas Eve? I wish racism didn't exist.

Thanks for reading!

Happy Holidays!! Stay safe

Ash xoxo

What a sad story, I don't know what I would do if I loose 5 of my children.
