Day 77 of "Figuring it Out" - Not The Onion

Updated: Oct 3

Kia Ora! Happy Thursday! It's Thursday right? I think so, Luke's got cricket tonight so it must be Thursday. Anyway, the weather today in Melbourne is pretty average, humid as heck, but wet and miserable outside BUT in good news, I've been for 2 walks today (albeit only about 20 minutes each) but I was happy to get outside for a bit while it wasn't raining. I haven't really done much today, Luke's been busy doing his food prep as he's in charge of dinner after training (so RIP kitchen, lol no I'm kidding).

I woke up kinda late this morning - maybe about 8am because I was dizzy and had a headache, no surprises there but I've been kinda productive - I was working on editing a video and making some Canva designs and I did read some of my book (which I haven't been reading a lot of lately). I just haven't been in much of a reading mood. I don't think I've done much else today and it's nearly 4pm. Gah, maybe tomorrow will be more productive (if I'm feeling okay). I'm trying to rest and enjoy this break without feeling guilty but honestly isn't going that well haha. We shall get there. It's a battle between getting enough rest but still being active enough and also trying to be productive and get things done while I still have time. Adulting is tough.

I am also finding that the later I post my blog, the more views it gets. I don't know if that's something to do with it being way later in NZ at the time so it's when people are winding down for the day or the people in Melbourne are doing their daily commute home (usually post around 5 or 6pm or even later depending on what I've done that day). I wonder if I should start scheduling my posts so that I can write them earlier and then advertise them on my socials. Hmm. This is really just me thinking out loud. Although, I do find it really weird how social media posts tend to do well REALLY early in the morning, like I think my best Instagram reel was the sunrise at like 5am one morning and I'd gone back to sleep after dropping someone off at the airport and posting (but it got like 4000 views). I'd love to be able to get back to that again. Other posts tend to do well if you post after 4pm and before 9pm. I probably haven't done enough analysis on these analytics though but just thought that that was interesting. I've got no idea about YT analytics yet though. It's weird how something can do well on Instagram and not TikTok and vice versa. Social media is such a weird place haha. Anyway, how'd I even get onto this topic? I shouldn't worry too much about views right now though because this is just a side project and a blog is something I wanted to do in 2020 but I don't think I really had the knowledge but as we keep getting older and wiser, we try new things and I think that's the same for the YT channel as well. It's helping me figure out what I want to do and what's next and it's a space for me to be creative and that's something that hasn't always come out lately.

I also had no idea what I was going to write about in my blog post today but then I remembered that I watched a YT video the other day of someone reacting to "not the onion" headlines. So for context "The Onion" is a satire-based journalistic style of writing online and it's pretty funny. Kinda like "The Beetoota Advocate". So what's "Not The Onion"? So it's basically weird and whacky news articles with silly headlines that you would THINK are from The Onion (aka are satire) BUT they're actually real. Mind blown. Anyway, I saw a YouTuber - I can't remember who it was, maybe an Australian one, read out some of these articles and reacted to the titles so I thought I'd share some of my faves below. I filtered by "top" and "this month":

So there you have it, 12 of the silliest headlines I found on Not The Onion! What articles can you find? Let me know in the comments below.

Probably a bit of a more boring blog post today but not every day is going to be super exciting. Tonight I plan on eating some leftovers, catching up on some TV and chilling out! And tomorrow if I'm feeling up to it, I want to make a start on the cleaning before the weekend so it's not all left for Saturday! We might also be heading out for a date night tomorrow (it all depends on the weather so I shall keep you updated on that).

For today's question of the day, I want to know, what did you learn from the last book you read? Let me know in the comments below! For me, I'm still reading two books - one about the haunted locations in Australia (so learning about all that) and another one about food - so I'm learning all about the history of processed foods and UPT.

That's all for now, see you tomorrow! Much love, Ash xx

That in a nutshell, the things we need to let go of to be happier overall are shame, ego, perfectionism and addiction to social media, and to embrace our imperfections
