Kia Ora friends. Happy Wednesday!
Although I really don't know what day it is anymore, seems like a bit of a blur when you're feeling unwell/aren't working. Bleugh. How are you going today? Are you surviving the midweek slump? Melbourne weather is cold AF today, another overcast day. It's so depressing. I was really looking forward to a sunny day, but nope, not yet. I just want to enjoy being outside - it's hard to do that when it's so chilly and you're craving summer vibes. And when it's sunny, you're more inclined to go outside. I'll probably end up complaining when it gets too hot, we can't win. Anyway....
Today I have been for a small walk (I did it so early before breakfast too so I was proud of that), re-organised the pantry to make my OCD happy, made myself some poached eggs on toast with avo/tomato for lunch, and tried to do some painting. The painting did not succeed as I was still not feeling super creative and I am way out of practice. I don't think I've actually painted anything since I was like 14. Now I feel like I've just made a mess of the lounge, but it's okay. I tried something new in my adult life and it's not often we do that. I think when I'm in a better frame of mind, it might be a better time to try painting again. It's kinda like I had this image in my head but I wasn't able to get it out through painting. Nonetheless - there are other ways to express oneself and I think I'm doing that now by writing this blog. Even if absolutely no one reads it.
It's November 1st! That means it's nearly my birthday, and I am dreading getting older (even though I'm still young and have my whole life ahead of me) but it just feels like I should be doing more with my life, I should have more qualifications, more experience. I wish I didn't feel so behind in life. But there are a few exciting things happening this month as well and I am going to slowly get back into baking when my body doesn't feel like falling over every time I stand up hahaha. Speaking of food, last night I made a beef stir fry and I was so worried that the beef wasn't going to be good, but it turned out way better than I thought it would. I am not very good at cooking red meat but as they say, practice makes perfection, and with needing more iron, cooking more red meat is probably a good thing. Luke liked it so that's the main thing! Tonight, we're also going to have some wine and a mini cheese board for our date night and just relax and watch TV. I'm not very good at resting when I need to, I just feel so guilty because of my health. It sucks. We might pick a movie or something to watch tonight as we haven't watched a movie in awhile. And maybe if the weather warms up this afternoon, I'll try get out for a second walk and get my steps up for the day (Luke's getting over 10k a day and I am jealous). We've also decided we're going to get a big Christmas tree and do a photoshoot when our matching PJs come (oh my gosh, I have absolutely turned into everything I hate about couples hahaha). Isn't it weird how we go straight from spooky season into Christmas vibes?
To celebrate November, I thought I'd share a few creepy facts today!
Phasmophia is the fear of ghosts and also a horror video game
Bees prefer nectar with caffeine and nicotine
Fir trees can grow in human lungs
After a person dies, they can still get goosebumps
Cockroaches can live without their heads for weeks
Crows can recognise and remember people's faces (I think a lot of other birds can too)
The 1982 Horror Movie 'Poltergeist' used real corpses (because it was cheaper)
There is an "Immortal Jellyfish" - it's really interesting, I encourage you to read about it "here"
Spiders can survive in space
Alien hand syndrome is a phenomenon where one hand is not controlled by the mind (and the person loses control of their hand)
Anyway, a short post from me today! But for today's question, I want to know, is there a dish that you cook exceptionally well? Let me know in the comments below. For me, it's definitely quesadillas! Yum.
Ka kite,
Much love
Ash xx
I think I'm getting on a roll with steaks, the last few I've done have been beautifully medium rare. I also fancy myself with my family's tried and true chicken curry 😋
