Day 38 of "Figuring it Out" - Sunday Serenity

Updated: Sep 30

Good evening friends and fam! How are we going? I'm coming at you with another late blog post today as it's been a pretty eventful day for Luke and I. I'm writing this as I sit in bed sipping on a hot chocolate as I was craving one when we got back from Luke's parents for dinner. Very blissful but the Sunday scaries are about to hit me. Do you ever do that thing where you sacrifice time that you'd be sleeping to stay up late so you feel like you have the illusion of more time? Cos me too. Although I do often just fall asleep because of how wrecked I am.

Did ya'll have a fabulous weekend? Today Luke and I had a sleep in and then we went out on an adventure to a new nature trail - this seems to be our go-to thing at the moment because I always am so drawn to green spaces and love seeing wildlife everywhere. Today we went to "Darebin Parklands" in Alphington. There was a lot more wildlife than I was expecting there to be as it has a few dog off-leash areas and usually where there's doggos, there's not always heaps of birds. But again, we saw a King Parrot fly past us (very briefly), some Eastern Rosellas (who were so cheeky and would get scared easily and fly off every time I wanted a photo), a Grey Butcherbird eating a warm, Common Mynas, Indian Miners, Rainbow Lorikeets, Pigeons, and lots of Magpies. I think I've got to start being more patient and experiment with different lenses for my bird photography because some days I get really good shots and others I don't and honestly that's just part of photography. But I think as I start to get more time it would be good to spend longer periods of time in nature to get better shots. The doggos were so cute too there! Many just running around in the little creek getting wet! There were also two dogs we saw that had only just met and one had a giant stick and the other was trying to get it off him so it was doggo tug of war which just looked so funny. We are definitely putting this on our list of places to go back to when the weather is a bit nicer and I can walk for longer (not having energy is really starting to piss me off).

On the way home we decided to stop for lunch at Code Black, Brunswick. Luke had a Roast Beef Bagel and deconstructed long black (the espresso in the mug and the boiling water in a jug) and I had a Pork Brekkie Burger and Almond Mocha. It gets really busy in there on the weekends but that's the second time we've been in the past year and the food was very yummy! It's quite heavily meaty brunch items so maybe not a great place for vegans/vegos but it was very good (and with all these deficiencies e.g., low iron and B12, some extra meat for me is hopefully going to help me in the long run). I defo want to go back and try other things on the brunch menu! Maybe something sweet next time. I have this weird thing about brunch - I'm at a loss for the right word here but often I want to have something with poached eggs like an eggs bene while simultaneously wanting to get something sweet like waffles, crepes, or pancakes. It's like my brain is having a debate between savoury and sweet and it just can't decide - although I tend to go for more savoury options most of the time. Is anyone else like that? I had another thought here but I forgot, oh well.

After lunch, we came home because we were pretty tired - and we just relaxed and watched more of Red Dwarf. We then thought it'd be a good idea to go for another quick walk around our neighbourhood and see if we could spot any doggos. I think we only saw one on this walk. Then tonight we had Fish and Chips for dinner with Luke's parents and pineapple for dessert and spent some time with them. After today, I am pretty wrecked still, just feeling exhausted and tired and so low on energy. I hate it so much! I wish it would go away and my energy would come back - and I know, you're probably bored of me saying this all time but this is my blog ahaha.

Also apparently Luke said he woke up at about 4am this morning because he heard some guy outside yelling f*ck off randomly. I didn't wake up at all but I did remember reading about an earthquake on the Great Ocean Road then seeing an article online where a wall had fallen down - so that was interesting. Coming from a place (CHCH) where earthquakes are so common, it's very strange to keep seeing the ones around Melbourne. Oh, that also reminds me, Luke said he had weird dreams after falling back asleep this morning and I said it might have been to do with where he was in REM sleep - or that his REM sleep was disturbed. I'll need to do some more research but I always thought it was more common for people to have dreams if they wake up super early and then fall back asleep. I think that's when I had most of my dreams anyway.

All this talk of REM sleep is making me sleepy! So I better end it here. But first, a question! In keeping with the wildlife theme, what's your favourite bird? Let me know in the comments below!

My favourite birds are Penguins (overall), followed by Kingfishers, and in Australia, I really like all the colourful parrots. Ka Kite,

Much love,

Ash
