Day 10 of "Figuring it Out" - The Ice Cream Challenge has begun!

Updated: Sep 25

Kia Ora friends and fam! I hope you don't have a case of the Sunday Scaries like I do tonight (and I am starting work at 8am tomorrow, ugh). It's not the work, it's how I'm feeling right now, and that's not very well. I know I've complained a lot lately but let me tell you, chronic fatigue and IBS suck so much. I'd love to be able to eat food and not feel super dizzy afterward. Or not feel like I have to sit down all the time. Anyway, let's get into today's blog!

Today, we woke up a bit later than usual and then made poached eggs on toast for breakfast with some coffees. Luke's eggs turned out better than mine (but hey, practice makes perfection amiright?). After this, Luke went off to cricket and I caught up on a few errands around the house. Although I had to stop a few times for some breaks but that's okay. I also managed to fix my tripod (the quick-release plate had gotten stuck - most likely from being left in the car) which I'm really happy about because it's a really good tripod and not something that I want to replace right now. We also had a quick lunch and then went for a drive out to Altona North Beach to go for a walk along the doggo beach. We saw some pelicans flying, a honey-eater, and a few adorable fairy wrens. I didn't get too many photos because of the sun but it was nice to see so many doggos out today and not have as much of an eerie experience as I did last time I was there. After going to the beach, we decided that we wanted to get some ice cream and start our ice cream challenge so we drove out to Williamstown and went to "Williamstown Ice Cream & Frozen Yoghurt". Luke had the Super Fudge Brownie and Golden Gaytime ice creams and I had the Rainbow and Rocky Road ice creams.

The ratings will eventually all be compiled into one big blog post but for now, I will post them along with my daily rambles while we update our spreadsheet and explore all the great ice cream spots that Melbourne has to offer. I rated my Rainbow ice cream a solid 8/10 because it had that childlike nostalgia to it and tasted like unicorns although I think rainbow ice cream is just sugar and food colouring so of course it's going to be yummy. The Rocky Road started off not amazing but as I kept eating, more goodies came to light. I rated this one a 9/10. My only fault with it was that I think it would have been better with dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate. As SOON as I tasted the cherry-flavoured marshmallow, I was hit with such a flavour bomb - it was so good. Like it tasted as if a glace cherry was an actual marshmallow and I know that doesn't make a lot of sense but it tasted that way. And then once the yummy pecans and peanuts came out, I was 100% hooked on this one. A+ in my books!

Luke's rating for the Golden Gaytime ice cream was a solid 7.5/10 because he would prefer a Golden Gaytime on a stick with the cookie crumbs on the outside. Fun fact, a Golden Gaytime is called a "Cookie Crumble" in NZ. I did have a wee taste of this one and I really liked it - it had a smooth delicious caramel swirl that just melted in your mouth. The other flavour that Luke got today was the Super Fudge Brownie which Luke gave a 6/10 because he just wanted there to be more chocolate sauce and more brownie bits in it. So for today's overall score, 30.5/40. Not bad. Watch this space for more ice cream adventures.

I also wanted to share my #ootd today as well as I feel it was slaying. I'm wearing a hat from H&M, a denim jacket from Ally, I can't remember the name of the store my dress is from but there used to be one in Melbourne Central and it closed down, and converse low tops (my favourite shoes ever).

We also made burgers for dinner (because I'm trying to add more iron into my diet -definitely not much of a red meat fan but I'm trying) so hopefully that also helps in my healing and energy levels come back.

Seeing as it's pretty much Spooky Season now, I wanted to get into some creepy things/mysteries. Something that I really miss is educating people so I want to get back into learning about all things creepy and sharing my knowledge with the world - whether it's on here through writing or in video format - we shall see. But it's definitely something I really miss and have an urge to do - maybe someday I will figure out a PhD topic and save enough money to do one or convince someone to give me a scholarship (who knows what's going to happen).

TW, this next bit is quite creepy. So feel free to stop reading here if you're not up for creepy tonight. I was watching a YouTube video today - I cannot remember who it was but they briefly discussed the spirit Krasue which is the body of a nocturnal female spirit from Southeast Asian folklore, who appears as a woman's head floating with just her internal organs instead of the body. It is said that this woman was burned to death and cursed, and then preys on young flesh and blood. The Krasue has been portrayed in lots of pop culture from Southeast Asia but there's not a lot of information online about this folklore but it is interesting nonetheless. What do you think? Could this be real? Let me know in the comments below.

Keeping it in the spooky theme for tonight's question, what's your favourite horror/thriller movie? I really like Get Out, Phonebooth, The Babadook, and Shutter Island although I still get scared.

Hitting the double digits now with these daily rambles hehe. Luke is cutting up some mango and rockmelon for dessert so I am gonna end it here. Thank you for reading. See you tomorrow!

Ka kite,

Much love,

Ash xx
