Hello friends! I thought I'd do regular Life Updates on the blog again and I thought I'd start with a monthly one seeing as it's literally the last day of the month. So here's a bit of a run down of everything that's happened in March for us so far (and when I say us, I do mean Luke and I because we do live together lol but I think you guys know that). Also, HAPPY EASTER! I hope you're getting spoilt with lots of chocolate and easter eggs.
Benji passed puppy school with flying colours - I was really nervous he wasn't going to but he was a model student and did all tasks straight away when asked. We did lots of practicing.
Benji has gone for his first walk and we're now trying to teach him to sit and wait before crossing a road (we're getting there).
I started seeing a psychologist in Melbourne and I really like this one!
Benji went to the dog park for the first time and smashed it with the big dogs!
Two of my mates from New Zealand moved over to Melbourne (we have yet to catch up with them though).
Both my health insurance and Disney+ went up (ugh, inflation).
Luke won a fancy cricket award again (he won a good one last year too).
Luke's back number plate got stolen at a shopping centre so he had to get new ones with anti-theft screws (what a weird thing to steal). I looked it up and apparently people do this to steal petrol and be less likely to be found when committing a crime - like I get that it's clever but it's really anoying for someone who doesn't deserve stuff like this to happen to them.
The mountain dog Bailey that lives at the back townhouse in our block got out, and some random guy left him with me. I tell you what, it was an ordeal. I was trying to get Benji settled after playing and this guy kept buzzing my doorbell (and Luke was in the office in the city). Anyway, he asked me if it was my dog and I said no and went to say he lives at the back and was trying to say how he could take him there. The guy just kept interrupting me and told me I should take him. At first, I said, "I have a puppy, if you take him down...." and he just kept cutting me off and telling me to take the dog. Anyway, I started to get a bad vibe from this guy so said I'd take him. I probably lost my cool a bit too much cause he just wasn't listening and he wanted to know how the dog got out (dude, idfk he's not mine and it was that time of the month so PMSing?) He tried to huff off with the dog but I said don't worry, I'll take him and then he kinda apologised saying "I'm sorry if you thought I was rude" LIKE come on, you don't have any self-awareness and you're just giving a dog to a stranger? In hindsight, I could have been a bit nicer because a random man could have attacked me. And then, when we tried to go down to his owner's house, I ended up getting the wrong house but the owners weren't home. And then he decided to run off again so I had to chase him down the street in my socks with Benji as well. That was really hard. BUT we got him to the front yard and he was calm just waiting for his mum to come back. Anyway, the daughter of his owner came home a few hours later and secured him thankfully. Then we got her mum's number off her and once she went home we went and explained the situation (she was very grateful but also thought the guy sounded like a tool so that made me feel a bit better) and now always says thank you whenever we see her. Again, in hindsight, I should have taken Bailey straight away but I thought the guy would have just walked down the back to take him back. He also said things to guilt me like "You want a dog to get run over, take him then?" Of course, I don't want a dog to get run over, but again, if you find a lost dog, you can call the council or listen when someone is trying to tell you to take him down the back when you've got a little pupper. Anyway, Bailey let Benji play with him a little but not too much. I feel bad for Benji because he got quite wound up but at least he got some socialisation with a really big dog. I have seen the guy walk his kelpie a few times and I just refuse to go outside when he's around. But usually dog owners are a lot nicer. This stuff is really really impacts my anxiety and makes me feel like a failure. Luke said to me he lives down the street (so again, he could have taken Bailey or buzzed all the other houses - like what if I didn't know where he lived).
Luke and I ate at some of the brunch places around our new suburb and they were fantastic! Such great food. Also, there's like a Turkish Kebab food truck near the train station in our area and it's SOOO YUMMY.
My YouTube started to see a bit of growth (please subscribe if you haven't already). I kinda find it weird that the random day in the life videos do better than like unsolved mysteries - but maybe that's because people don't vlog as much any more. Like one of my recent ones is already at over 800 views and idk if it's getting retention but I'm proud nonetheless - maybe people will keep watching and I can monetise that too (that'll be cool). I actually saw on one of my Facebook memories that I wanted to make vlogs then haha but got some heat from people so decided not to.
I started focusing on my blog more as a job than a hobby (not full-time, but I think it's going well). Please continue to support me in any way you can.
I started a herb garden in some raised garden beds on the balcony. Most of the herbs are doing well (except the parsley and I can't figure out why yet). But I'm so happy we have mint to cook with the potatoes and that it doesn't go off if we buy some from the shops. I'm more of a trial and error kinda person - that's how I learn and it works for me. I really struggle when other people tell me what to do.
We've noticed that some mornings the galahs will come and sit in the tree outside our house as well as the power lines (which makes for great photos). I dunno when Benji is gonna start barking at them though.
Some of my kiwi mates are coming over for a week in April to go to some Melbourne concerts so they're gonna come crash in our spare room (so it'll be good to have some extra socialising). I hope they do some stuff with me ahah.
I had a dream that a platypus came into our lounge and then there was a missing dog (not ours - maybe it was a premonition because it was before Bailey got out). Haha idk! Looking the meaning up says "you wallow in negative emotions" - which I can do but I think I'm also good at being an optimist most of the time.
Luke's parents had their wedding anniversary.
Luke is away tonight so it's just me and Benji for one night (hopefully it goes okie).
I watched Gogglebox for the first time (and it was funnier than I expected). I really enjoy people's unfiltered thoughts. Although they did show a bear cub who got caught in a current and I was a blubbering mess.
I saw a lady pull up, look in our mail box (I think she had a key, I wasn't sure) and then buzz on our door. Luke answered the door and she was asking if her mail was coming here as she wasn't receiving any to her new address. I was way too scared to answer the door because I was like wtf is she doing does she still have a key to here? But anyway, appararetly she showed Luke her ID and explained. I think we had one bank statement but nothing that she was looking for. Made me feel weird because I thought for that sorta thing you'd go to the old propety manager. It was weird but makes for a good story.
I also decided as well as making my blog my job, that this year is like a gap year where I focus on my creative outlets and really work at turning those into a career (and it works WAY better for me). Plus, the YouTube thing seems to be doing well - and I'm proud of that. Again, I hope ya'll continue to support me by engaging with my content. Plus, I'm sure Benji's accounts will do really well.
We watched "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here" for the first time and we were definitely hooked! However, I actually think Robert Irwin should host it by himself because I think he would do better alone. I don't understand why he's getting so much hate, he's literally a conservationist following in his late dad's footsteps and becoming a host of things. Like it's pretty cool to be that successful that young.
I have been limiting my caffeine intake so that I'm not so reliant on it, with coffee every second or third day and moving back to more iced coffees as the caffeine doesn't go through you as fast.
I've also been limiting my iron supplements - we're down to every 3 days and next month, I'm going down to once a week which I cannot wait for because it has caused me so much unneccessary IBS issues.
Benji went to the beach.
Benji went to x2 different cafes and people complimented how well behaved he was. So happy!
Anyway, that's my March life update for you all! I hope you enjoyed reading about our random life. I'll try and do more regular life updates because I know people enjoy hearing my unfiltered thoughts about things (I know it seems a bit clickbaity but I think I'm an interesting person).
Much love,
Ash xx
